Cichociemni Town Square was built on the small hill, where, during World War II, Rzeszów's ghetto was located nearby. Nowadays, it's a memorial place that consists of the 'Passage 2001' monument, the obelisk in honor of Cichociemni soldiers and stone tablets in honor of the Auschwitz concentration camp prisoners.
The author of the spatial sculpture 'Passage 2001' is Józej Szajna, an inhabitant of Rzeszów, the former prisoner of Auschwitz and Buchenwald concentration camps. The monument of a human silhouette cut out from the rectangular form symbolizes passing of people from different cultures and of different denominations to the new millennium. It is also an allegory of death. The obelisk located on the square does not let forget about the Polish Armed Forces soldiers that during World War II executed a parachute assault in order to conduct a guerilla fight against Polish occupants.Less
