The Rzeszów's locomotive TKt48-27 was made in 1951 in the H. Cegielski Factory of Rail Vehicles. It is so called tank engine, a locomotive that doesn't need a tender - an additional wagon carrying coal. Fuel and water were stored in the purpose-built tanks. Nowadays, the Rzeszów's locomotive can be found near the Polish State Railways building.
In the 1950s, the Tkt48-27 were used by MD Nasielsk and MD Kielce, and in the 1960s, by MD Chełm and MD Sucha Beskidzka. Its last motive power depot was Nowy Sącz.Tank locomotives, like the one in Rzeszów, were equipped in water chests - tanks with different capacities. Few of them were placed on the sides of the cauldron, others were put in the vehicle's frame, under the cauldron.Depending on the size of the locomotive, the chests with coal were installed behind or in front of the driver's booth. If a locomotive were very small, coal was carried in the purpose-built basket stored inside the booth.Less
