Wielkopolska Firefighting Museum
Local name: Wielkopolskie Muzeum Pożarnictwa
The Wielkopolska Museum of Firefighting in Rakoniewice is located in a former Protestant church and an old school. Is a branch of the Central Museum of Firefighting. Its collections include archives, banners, uniforms, fire-fighting equipment and fire trucks, the oldest of which date from the interwar period. There is also an interactive exhibition "Firefighters to the rescue of nature".
The museum was founded in 1974. It occupies a beautifully restored half-timbered building of a former Protestant church. At the beginning of the 21st century, the old school was also allocated to the constantly growing collection. An exhibition of cars and heavy firefighting equipment found a place in the pavilions surrounding the church. There are 27 fire extinguishing cars from 1927 - 1986 and 24 horse-riding fire trucks, the oldest of which come from the end of the 18th century.
In the museum you can see firefighter medals and banners, uniforms from different eras, firefighting equipment and numerous photos and archives. The exhibition also includes exhibits donated by firefighting organizations from abroad, including Belgium, Hungary and Denmark.
