The biggest wicker basket in the world

The giant basket stands on the town square and is one of the modern symbols of this town, which is famous for hop-growing and wicker growing. The inhabitants of Nowy Tomyśl decided to present their tradition to the whole world and in 2000 and 2006 they created the largest wicker baskets in the world and set a Guinness record twice.

The first basket was woven in 2000. 50 weavers began working on it, which made a basket of 8 tons of wicker with dimensions: length - 17.29 m, width - 9.46 m, height - 7.71 m. After six years, due to poor condition , had to be demolished. Currently, its place is taken by the second, even larger, record basket from 2006.

It was created by the same team of weavers, but the current giant basket is 19.8 m long, 9.53 m wide and 8.98 m high. 12 tons of wicker and 11 tons of steel construction were needed for its construction. Shrubs and trees grow inside the huge basket. By planting different species of vegetation, the interior of the basket is green almost all year round.
