The monumental 19th-century cemetery in Przemyśl is the largest Jewish graveyard in Podkarpackie Voivodeship. The area of 5 ha consists of several hundred traditional matzevahs decorated with reliefs, and newer obelisks. The cemetery gate with the insciption commemorating the founder of part of the fence also preserved to this day. The oldest, 19th-century tombstones are located in the center. There are also exhumed remains of Jews from Przemyśl, Bircza, Lubaczów, and Stalowa Wola who were murdered by Nazis during World War II. Victims are commemorated by the monument situated near the gate.
Jews were a significant part of the community in Przemyśl for centuries. The Jewish cemetery was established around the first half of the 19th century when the old graveyard existing since the 16th century run out of place. The old necropolis, located near present Rakoczy Street, was destroyed during World War II. The fence for the Jewish cemetery was finished in 1913.
