Dam and hydroelectric power station

Local name: Zapora i elektrownia wodna

The impressive arched shape building made of stone and concrete attracts attention because of its extremely picturesque location. From its 270-meter-long and 7.5-meter-wide crown, one can enjoy the great view of the surrounding area. In the dam below a power plant is located. The power plant devices, unchanged since the time of its construction, are still working.

The monumental dam on Bóbr river was put into use in 1912 to protect the region from floods. The dammed water of the Bóbr River formed the Pilchowickie lake with a very varied picturesque coastline. The construction with a cross-section similar to a triangle, has a base of a thickness of 50 m and is 62 m high. The wall's volume is 275,000 m3. The dam in Pilchowice together with the lake is one of the biggest attraction of the region.
