Castle Tower

Local name: Baszta Zamkowa

The historic building of the fourteenth century, now serves as a lookout tower, which overlooks the picturesque view of the city and surrounding area. A remnant of the ancient gate of the city is a treat for lovers of history and a valuable reminder of the old fortifications. The construction of the tower is based on a circular plan, and its summit is crowned with an octagonal roof covered with tent superstructure. Located on the roof is a metal flag with the symbol of a deer. The tower has had a checkered history, which consists of the construction of the fourteenth century, the destruction by fire, reconstruction, collapse and re-restoration in the sixteenth century, the function of defense and the town prison, and the last restoration by the residents of Jelenia Gora about 1836.
