The wooden Orthodox Church of the Virgin Mary in Owczary is one of the oldest Lemko churches in Poland. A few hundred years old, the temple now serves as a Greek Catholic parish church and a Roman Catholic church. Not only is the church itself a monumental building - its interior is also invaluable antiques. The amazing church building is appreciated not only by tourists but also by a wider audience - in 2013 the church was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
Wandering along the trail of wooden architecture of the Małopolskie Voivodship, you can come across many wonderful buildings. One of them is built in 1653 Orthodox Church of the Protection of the Mother. The wooden building is surrounded by a stone wall with two ancient passages - a brick gate and a gate belfry.
The interior of the orthodox church is no less enchanting than its architecture. The most valuable elements of the decor include 18th century iconostasis and side altars adorned with old icons (dating back to the 16th century).
