Surrounded by wooded hills of the Low Beskids, Klimkowskie Lake perfectly fits into the landscape of the picturesque gorge of the Ropa River known as the "Gorlice Pieniny".
In the place where the river breaks between the massifs of Kiczera-Żdżar and Ubocze, a dam was built. The waters of the reservoir created in this way flooded the former village of Klimkówka and part of the road leading to Uście Gorlickie.
The reservoir is about 6 km long, has an area of over 300 ha, and its depth reaches 31 meters. There are excellent conditions for windsurfing enthusiasts. There is also a marina, water equipment rental and swimming pool. The lake includes a quiet zone.
The decision to build the dam was made in the 1970s. The works were completed in 1994. The dam is 37 meters high and 210 meters wide. Next to it is a power plant. In addition to natural and tourist assets, the reservoir also has anti-flooding significance and supplies water to nearby cities. The lake appeared in Jerzy Hoffman's film "Fire and Sword". She appeared in the role of the Dnieper.
Near the lake, hiking and cycling routes were marked out, and the surrounding villages hide priceless monuments of wooden architecture - former Lemko churches.
