Biebrza National Park

Biebrza National Park is the largest national park in Poland. It's located in the area of the Biebrza Valley and contains almost the whole Biebrza River. Its lands are one of a kind in the country. It has mires called the Biebrza Marshes which are the best-preserved mires in Europe.
Biebrza National Park consists of many bird species inhabiting the marshy environment. Especially worthy of attention are ones for which the area of Biebrza is an ideal feeding and resting grounds during the annual migrations. The most characteristic are ruff, common snipe, aquatic warbler, common crane, jack snipe, short-eared owl and lesser spotted eagle. The park also consists of the largest Polish refugium of moose which contains 700 specimens. This mammal is characteristic for these areas because it's the only mammal species which survived World War II.Visitors can also admire the picturesque nature which includes marshes, mires, reed beds, forests, and reservoirs. Vegetation is also quite varied and consists of rare species such as sundews, orchis or lycopods.Apart from nature, the area of the park offers other attractions. It's worth to visit the 20th-century Osowiec Fortress which was never taken, Tsarist Road, and Red Marsh Nature Reserve. The park can be explored by bike or kayak, or by designated routes and didactic paths.Less
