Fortified Front Oder-Warthe-Bogen

Local name: Międzyrzecki Rejon Umocniony

Międzyrzecki Fortified Region in Pniewo is the largest attraction of the Lubusz Land. The post-German fortification system includes a complex of corridors extending over a length of 32 km. The tour takes place on two routes of different length and an extreme route. Along the way, you can see military and technical facilities, battle shelters, underground railway installations, an exhibition of military equipment, as well as Europe's largest bat reserve.

The fortifications of the Międzyrzecki Fortified Region were built in the 1930s in the Odra and Warta arches, and the entire underground and ground complex is 100 km long. In the underground, connecting surface battle shelters, warehouses and railway stations, a year-round tourist route runs. Its longer version is 2.5 km, and it takes 2.5 hours to go through. The short route, it takes 1.5 hours to go through and its length is 1.5 km. In winter, both routes bypass bat lairs, due to the protective period lasting then.

For the tourists who like challenges the museum also offers extreme routes, allowing for 4-, 6- or 8-hour tours of underground nooks and crannies. Flashlights, provisions, appropriate clothing and waterproof shoes are necessary. A unique attraction is the bat reserve, in which is wintering approximately 35,000 of these winged mammals.
