Markowa Village Museum operates since 1985. It was established by the Association of Friends of Markowa which aims to commemorate the past of their hometown. The outdoor museum was created entirely by themselves. In the beginning, it consisted of the peasant's house, stable, and windmill.
With the passages of time, the facility was extended with other objects presenting the life of the village's inhabitants from the turn of the 20th century. They are largely Upper Lusatian houses which dominated in the town's architecture. A typical Upper Lusatian house has two floors, gabled roof, and is divided into residential and agricultural parts. Today's museum includes barn, granary, forgery, wooden school, "biedniacki" hut, and oil mill. Because of the limited area of the museum, "biedniacki" and peasant buildings were placed next to each other. The museum also organizes numerous events such as the Baked Potatoe Day.Less
