Local name: Ratusz w Lwówku Śląskim
The original building of the Gothic-Renaissance City Hall, as distinguished from the past, is the headquarters of the city authorities. Its walls include the Office of Civil Status, a library and a museum. The exhibition is worth mentioning the collection of minerals, among others. Beautiful specimens of agates, and other rocks and fossils. Noteworthy is the exhibition of paintings depicting the history of Lviv and its inhabitants.
In the Town Hall, an historic meeting hall, a torture chamber, and a richly decorated wedding hall were made available for visiting. Outside, the southern facade of the building, which has retained many Renaissance architectural decorations, is most interesting.
Placed on the third largest market in Poland, the Town Hall was built in the first half of the 16th century, and the present appearance was obtained after the expansion in 1902-1905. The building is dominated by a monumental tower with clock-faces. During the battle for Lwówek in 1945, the Town Hall was partially burned and rebuilt in 1955-1958. Today the property is a real ornament of the market and the city.
