The Union of Lublin Monument was established to celebrate the union between the Crown of the Kingdom of Poland and the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. The object stands in a place where in the sixteenth century a parliament was held, where the nobles debate. He was recognized as a symbol of European heritage.
The monument is thirteen meters high. It is in the shape of an obelisk and placed on a square platform, decorated with granite slabs. On the front side of the pedestal there is a symbolic bas-relief. It presents two female figures, symbolizing the Crown and Lithuania, facing each other and giving each other their right hands. Among them were placed the shields of arms of both countries - Poland and Lithuania. In this way, the union between the two countries was shown.The first monument commemorating this historic event was created in the sixteenth century. For its construction, stone and brick were used. Its exact appearance is unknown. Most probably, it was 12 cubits high and covered with tiles. It was destroyed during the demolition of neighboring religious buildings.Less
