The Old Theatre in Lublin is located in the Old Town. It is an impresario-type scene, where not only performances take place, but also concerts, discussions, meetings with authors and workshops. After the renovation, which ended in 2012, Teatr Stary can be visited after prior notification.
The Old Theatre is one of the oldest preserved theaters in Poland. It was opened in 1822, and only the Old Theater in Krakow is older than it. Until 1866, it functioned as the main, and above all winter, scene of Lublin. After the opening of the Osterwa Theater, itinerant acting and circus groups began to appear here. At the beginning of the 20th century, a cinema entered the building, and the Jewish Theater also performed here. After the Second World War, the building began to decline. The attempt to save it was made only at the beginning of the 21st century. Currently renovated is one of the major cultural facilities of the city. The theater was designed by Łukasz Rodakiewicz. It is a classicistic building decorated with blind arcades and bas-reliefs depicting theatrical masks. During the renovation, the original layout of the interior has been preserved. A cellar was also made, which the original building was deprived of.Less
