Gothic Chapel of The Saint Trinity, also known as the Castle Chapel, is one of the most valuable monuments of medieval art in Europe, connecting the culture of the East and the West. Inside the Chapel you can admire the priceless Byzantine-Ruthenian frescoes from the 15th century, and also the renaissance portal. The front façade is renaissance as well.
Castle Chapel is an significant attraction of Lublin and it is worth visiting, due to both exquisite wall paintings that cover almost the entire interior and its participation in important historical events. One of them was the Union of Lublin in 1569, while at the beginning of the 19th century it served as a prison chapel, and the frescoes we admire today were covered with a layer of plaster. They were discovered accidently only in 1899, and in turn, this event initiated the intensive renovation of the building.Chapel of The St.Trinity is part of the Lublin Castle. Its founder was probably Casimir the Great, who executed so-called building workshops during his reign. In turn, the frescoes were painted by Ruthenian painters from the foundation of King Władysław Jagiełło. The inscription on the chancel arch informs about the period of painting accomplishment, and their main creator.Less
