Piarist Church

Local name: Kościół Ojców Pijarów

The Baroque Church of Our Lady of Grace and Saint Adalbert in Łowicz is a headquarters of Piarists. It was built from 1672 to 1680. It has three naves and the form of a basilica. Frescos in the presbytery depict scenes from the life of Saint Adalbert. They were probably made by Michelangelo Palloni.

Since the beginning of its existence, the sacral object belongs to Piarists. The name of their order comes from the Latin word "pius" which means pious. Its motto is "Pietas et Litterae" (piousness and knowledge). The order is faithful to this maxim to this day.

Pirarists came back to Łowicz in 1958 after the long break which started in 1864. The church performs pastoral duties as a rectoral church and also operates as an educational facility which consists of primary, junior high, and high school.
