Manufaktura in Łódź is a combination of textile factory traditions of the city with a modern shopping mall and entertainment centre. At present time a shopping gallery, the Imax cinema, numerous restaurants, a fitness centre, and a luxurious hotel are situated in the former buildings of the Izrael Poznański's factory. All of them are located around a large square with fountains, where big number of events take place. A colorful tram courses through the center.
The building had been built at the end of the 19th century. It had been systematically expanding into a weaving mill, cotton mill, dye-house, bleacher house, printery, and other textile production buildings complex, as well as a complex of buildings for the construction and repair of machinery, a gas plant, fire station, foundry, a steam locomotives depot, and others which, with their own railway siding, occupied an area of 30 hectares. In the complex area there was also the Poznański's palace and the apartments of workers. Most of the buildings were made of non-plastered brick.
