MS1 Museum of Art - Maurycy Poznański Palace

Local name: Muzeum Sztuki MS1 - Pałac Maurycego Poznańskiego

The beautiful, richly ornamented building from 19th century stands at the junction of Więckowski and Gdańska streets and nowadays serves as the Museum of Art in Łódź. Museum presents collections of old art, including Sarmatian portraits from the 19th century, as well as modern art from the 20th and 21st centuries.

The neo-Renaissance palace was built in the 19th century in a style referring to the Venetian National Library of Saint Mark's. The building is a gift from a father, Izrael Poznański, to his younger son Maurycy and his wife Sara. Initially, the palace was surrounded by a large garden which in time was closed down in favor of new farm buildings. In the 1940s, the building was adjusted to the needs of the museum, most of the architectural decorations from the interior have been removed.

In the palace a staircase with marble stairs, a wrought balustrade, stained glass windows and lamps, as well as numerous decorations in the lecture hall have preserved. An interesting fact is that the interiors of the Maurycy Poznański's Palace served as the background for some scenes of the series "Daleko od szosy" and "Rodzina Połanieckich".
