The Town Hall in Leszno is considered one of the most beautiful in Greater Poland. The Baroque and classicist building with a tall clock tower is a dominant object in the square. It consists of representative halls of the town council office, Art Exhibition Office, and a cafe.
The Town Hall was built in the first half of the 17th century in the times of the greatest glory of the city which were thanks to the owners - the Leszczyński Family. Because of fires and warfare, the then late-Renaissance building was rebuilt several times. Today's look was achieved in the second half of the 18th century. The authors of last Baroque and classicist changes were Italian architects - Pompeo Ferrari and Dominik Merlini. The Town Hall has a rectangular shape. Its corners consist of Corinthian columns while the narrow square clock tower towers over the entrance. The 17th-century sculpture of Iustitia - the symbol of justice - can be seen above the main entrance. There are also heraldic cartouches of owners of Leszno. The interior consist of the representative town council chamber, and the wedding hall. Art Exhibition Office operates in the attic while the cafe is situated on the ground floor.Less
