Church of St. Nicholas

Local name: Kościół św. Mikołaja

The church Nicholas in Leszno is a baroque hall building with a two-tower facade. Enlarged in the early twentieth century, it received a new, neo-Baroque presbytery. The greatest treasure of the temple is its interior. There are very valuable furnishings, such as a decorated seventeenth-century pulpit, stucco, baroque sculptures and considered one of the greatest baroque grave epitaphs in Poland belonging to the Leszczyński family.

The church Nicholas was founded at the end of the 17th century by Bishop Bogusław Leszczyński. Over time, due to the growing Catholic community, it was necessary to expand it. A presbytery was added to the baroque indoor basilica in 1907, which received a neo-baroque decor.

The church's equipment comes mainly from the turn of the 17th and 18th centuries. The baroque main altar with the image of the Holy Trinity was made by Michelangelo Palloni, while the pulpit decorated with woodcarving decoration comes from Silesia. There are also 10 side altars. Stucco sculptural decorations, including the figure of Saint John of Nepomuk, are also valuable. The baroque tombstones of Bogusław and Rafał Leszczyński are among the most beautiful in the country.
