Located in the former synagogue, the gallery presents collections of Jewish ceremonial art and Polish rural paintings. It displays works of prominent artists such as Józef Chełmoński, Julian Fałat, Juliusz Kossak, and Leon Wyczółkowski.
The gallery consists of two permanent exhibitions. The first presents Jewish ceremonial art - objects of religious and synagogue cult, paintings and graphics - and also historic souvenirs related to the Jewish community from the region of Greater Poland. Collections dedicated to the Jewish community are also present in temporary exhibitions. About 800 Polish rural paintings from the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century can be admired in the second room. The synagogue was built in the 18th century. The tower part and the matroneum were added during the renovation in 1905. The thorough renovation which did not change the building's structure was carried out at the end of the 20th century. The space, which in the past was used for sacral purposes, was changed into exhibition rooms.Less
