Workshop and Stained Glass Museum

Local name: Muzeum i Pracownia Witrażu

Workshop and Stained Glass Museum in Kraków is a so-called "living museum". It's a place where an exhibition space is combined with a workshop which is still operating and can be explored. It is located in the building of Krakowski Zakład Witrażów S. G. Żeleński (Kraków Stained Glass Workshop S. G. Żeleński). It consists of the exhibition of stained glasses and tools required for their construction. There are also organized workshops and shows of making these glass pieces of art.

The building, in which the museum operates since 2004, was built at the beginning of the 20th century. This Neo-Gothic tenement house is a place where Żeleński run his workshop. He cooperated with, among others Stanisław Wyspiański, or Józef Mehoffer. It preserved the original decor from a hundred years ago. It contains the largest collection of stained glasses, and tools, sketches, and projects needed for making them in Poland.

Because the museum also operates as a manufactory, it organizes courses of making stained glass. The shop offers souvenirs, pendants, stained glass decorations, pictures, and many more. There is also a cafe next to the museum.
