Vistulan Boulevards

Local name: Bulwary Wiślane

Vistula boulevards in Cracow are peaceful and beautiful place for walking located in the very city center. Due to the many alleys, bicycle paths, as well as playgrounds nearby, they are one of the most popular recreation and leisure zones. Together with the adjacent fragments of the Vistula and Rudawa embankments they were given the status of a park zone. Along the boulevards there are many Cracowian attractions and historical treasures (among others: the Church on the Rock and Wawel Dragon statue).

In 1991 they were divided into parts and given new names. On the left bank there are: Rodła, Czerwieński, Inflancki i Kurlandzki boulevards and on the right – Poleski, Wołyński, Podolski i Lotników Alianckich boulevards. They were built on both sides of Vistula river in the years 1907-1913 according to the plans of Roman Ingarden. Their main goal was and still is to protect against floods, but they were also a part of a designed canal Dunaj-Dniestr.
