Wierzynek Restaurant

Local name: Restauracja Wierzynek

It's one of the most popular Cracow's restaurants. It occupies three tenement houses: Morsztynowski, Pinociński, and one floor of Hetmański. It's divided into few halls. Wierzynkowa Hall presents the replica of the 19th-century painting by Bronisław Abramowicz - "Feast at Wierzynek". The rest halls are Column Hall (inspired by the ancient Doric order), Clock Hall, Cracow's Hall, Knight Hall (in medieval style), two Pompeian Halls (with gorgeous frescos on the walls), and Renaissance Hall (famous for Chopin Concerts which take place there).

The name of the restaurant comes from the legendary feast which took place in 1364 and was organized by Cracow's merchant Mikołaj Wierzynek in one of the tenement houses on the market square. The feast was to celebrate the marriage of the granddaughter of King Casimir the Great with Charles IV, Holy Roman Emperor. It is said that kings of Hungary, Denmark, and even Cyprus were present at the feast.
