The Senators' Tower is the largest of the preserved towers that are part of the medieval defense system of Wawel. It is a nine-storey stone and brick building covered with a cone shape roof. Together with Sandomierz Tower, he creates a unique team of fire towers.
The Senators' Tower was built during the reign of king Kazimierz Jagiellończyk. Thanks to the rounded corners and the large window openings, it was adapted to accommodate canons. The tower returned to its original appearance only at the beginning of the 20th century. In place of the neo-gothic crenellations, a medieval, conical covering was reconstructed at that time. A latrine bay window, stripped by the Germans during World War II, was also rebuilt.Less
