Sandomierska Tower is one of the three preserved towers within the area of Wawel. This 15th-century building with round edges was used as a cannon outpost. There is an observation point on its top.
The first mentions of Sandomierska Tower come from 1462. It was then when six town councilors accused of rebellion and assassination of Jędrzej Tęczyński were executed at its foot. The medieval tower was also used as a cannon tower. It is indicated by window openings dedicated to cannons and round corners for sliding cannonballs.The tower has eight floors. The lower part is made of limestone while the upper is brick. It has a short tented roof and medieval bay windows which were reconstructed in the 20th century.Less
