Wawel Architecture and Gardens is one of the outdoor tours in the area of Wawel. Its biggest attractions are the re-created Renaissance gardens opened to the public in 2015 which were made in the times of Sigismund I the Old and Bona Sforza.
Thanks to the archaeological and archival research conducted for many years, it was possible to pinpoint the location of the gardens and conclude how they looked like. They contain two terraces, upper and lower. The higher, smaller terrace consists of chests with herbs and ornaments made of short shrubs. The lower one contains small orchard and geometrical flower gardens arranged in various patterns. S-shaped garden - the initial of Sigismund I the Old - can be found among them. Brick alleys are between the terraces. The track starts in the exhibition Lost Wawel, then leads through the Wawel's courtyards to the gardens at the foot of the hill where the panorama of Kraków can be admired. The track also includes the Hen's Foot Tower and the 16th-century tower. The route back leads through the Tartar lobby to the arcaded courtyard and Sandomierska Tower. The tour is guided.Less
