St. Florian's Gate was created at the time when Cracow was surrounded by a wall. There were eight defensive gates leading to the city, from which only St. Florian's Gate survived. It also adheres to a fragment of the preserved defensive walls.
The oldest parts of the gate dates back to thirteenth century, while the brick superstructure was created two centuries later. From the side of Florianska street in the niche you can see the 18th century rococo sculpture of St. Florian, while from the side of Planty above the entrance, there is a bas-relief with the Piast eagle made according to the idea of Jan Matejko.
