Rakowicki Cemetery

Local name: Cmentarz Rakowicki

Rakowicki Cemetery is the most famous and one of the most beautiful necropolises in Krakow. It was opened in early 1803. You can admire many wonderful works of art - among others monuments and gravestones of Xawery Dunikowski, Antoni Madeyski, Franciszek Mączyński, Stanisław Odrzywolski and Bronisław Chromy. Since 1976, Rakowicki Cemetery is in the register of monuments.

You will find here the quarters of participants of uprisings (November, January, Krakow), World War I, Polish Legions, soldiers from the Second World War, as well as many outstanding Poles. Among others, Jan Matejko, Piotr Skrzynecki, Marek Grechuta and Wisława Szymborska rest here.

In addition to sculptures, in this place you can also admire the chapel dedicated to the Lord's Resurrection from 1861 and the Monument to the Victims of Communism.
