Polish Aviation Museum

Local name: Muzeum Lotnictwa Polskiego

The Polish Aviation Museum in Cracow was entered in the prestige list of ten best aviation museums in the world created by CNN. It's located in the place of the former airport Rakowice-Czyżyny. It consists of almost 200 planes and other aircraft. The collection contains 25 Hermann Göring's aircraft and the only copies of Polish planes PWS-26 and PZL P.11c.

The Polish Aviation Museum was established in 1964. In 2010 it acquired new exhibition spaces. Current collections are presented in hangars and outdoor exposition.

The main part of the collection is Polish and European planes made since the interwar period and aircraft from the beginning of aviation. Some of them are faithful copies but the majority of the machines is original. Some of them are the only copies in the world. The museum displays the Hermann Göring's collection of 25 aircraft which were abandoned there by fleeing Germans.

The outdoor exposition presents newer aircrafts such as MiGs, JAKs and Iskras which were used in Polish military aviation. This collection also consists of few gliders, helicopters and anti-aircraft weapons. Every year, the museum organizes Lesser Poland Aviation Picnic.
