Plac Nowy

Plac Nowy (New Square) is the heart of Kraków's Kazimierz, ie the Jewish quarter, which is why it is often called the Jewish Square. The central point of the square is the so-called Okrąglak, a historic trade pavilion from 1900.

A market takes place both on weekdays and on weekends at Plac Nowy. You can buy fruits, vegetables, food products, but also clothing and antiques. Concerts and other cultural events take place here as part of various Kraków festivals. Numerous cafes and bars operate in the tenements around the square.

Okrąglak, located in the middle of the square, used to function as a slaughterhouse and warehouse. Currently, there are catering outlets in it, which offer, among others, legendary “zapiekanki” (toasted baguettes), which both tourists and residents of Krakow take in their treats. On the roof of Okrąglak concerts are sometimes organized.
