16th-century High Synagogue in Kraków was built of brick and stone. The unique idea was to place prayer room on the floor, above shops occupying the ground floor. Thanks to this, it's the tallest synagogue in the city. It was entered in the register of objects of cultural heritage.
Valuable souvenirs from the times of its construction preserved to this day. They include stone portal in the south facade. Visitors can also admire paintings from the 17th century which were made during the renovation. The stone Torah ark with columns can be found in the center of men hall. The synagogue was destroyed during World War II what is reminded by the inscription in Hebrew on the external wall. Since 2008 High Synagogue belongs to the publishing house "Austeria". Concerts, exhibitions, and meeting are organized here. It is opened to the public.Less
