Gallery "Art of Old Poland. The 12th-18th century" is one of the permanent exhibitions presented in the Bishop Erazm Ciołek Palace. It displays paintings, sculptures, and handicrafts since Romanism to late-Baroque. The most important and valuable items are Gothic paintings and sculptures including the Beautiful Virgin Mary from Krużlowa from 1410. It also consists of the oldest Lesser-Poland epitaph-painting commemorating knight Wierzbięta of Branice.
Other valuable pieces of art are works by Veit Stoss, his students, and imitators such as "Christ In the Olive Garden", a wooden crucifix, and numerous figures of saints. Works by European Renaissance masters - Hans Dürer and Giovanni Maria Padovano - can also be admired here.Worthy of attention is also the collection dedicated to the old-Polish funeral traditions. It displays coffin portraits, catafalque in the shape of a griffin, mourning flags, and liturgical dresses. It also consists of the rich collection of Baroque portraits.Less
