Benedictine Abbey in Tyniec was built on limestone Klasztorne Hill by the Vistula. The gorgeous Gothic monastery with Baroque parts can be admired here. It also consists of more modest Romanesque parts - stone ashlar wall and portal from the second half of the 11th century. The church of Saint Peter and Paul which combines features of Gothic and Baroque is situated nearby. Its most characteristic part is the pulpit in the shape of a black and gold boat.
Benedictine Abbey in Tyniec still serves religious purposes but there is also the public zone dedicated to tourists who would like to explore the monastery. A museum, Benedictine Culture Institute, and Guest House offering accommodation are located in the building of a former library. Monastics also promote and sell products made according to traditional, monastic recipes.Less
