Kościuszko Mound

Local name: Kopiec Kościuszki

Kościuszko Mound, erected in 1820-1823 in honor of the national hero Tadeusz Kościuszko is one of the four mounds in Cracow. The construction is surrounded by a citadel fort where the Museum of Kościuszko is located. The monumental chapel of Blessed Barbara can be found at the foot of the mound, while the viewpoint is situated at the top.

The mound was erected on Sikornik Hill where according to tradition was the hermitage of Blessed Barbara. The chapel was demolished during the construction of fortification around the mound and in 1856 the new one in Neo-Gothic style was built. The church was entered in the register of stationary objects of Lesser Poland Voivodeship.

The 19th-century citadel fort no.2 "Kościuszko" is a part of Cracow Fortress. It consists of the conference center and the museum where the permanent exhibition "The Kościuszko's Uprising and Traditions in Cracow" and temporary exhibitions can be admired.
