The museum is located in the building of the 15th-century town hall. Inside, exhibits were presented, which were divided into the following sections: archaeological, ethnographic, phyllocartistic, historical, numismatic, military and art. The most valuable monuments are stone axes about 5000 years old.
Archaeological exhibits include not only tools from the Neolithic period, but also graves, ceramics and metal products. The ethnographic department has exhibits related to the culture of the inhabitants of the village of Ziemia Kościańska. Among the monuments there are tools for working wood or metal, home furnishings, as well as elements of folk costume - hats, scarves, beads.
The philo-artistic collection collects, among others, 19th-century letters and envelopes. The military mainly consists of souvenirs of soldiers recruiting from the area of the former Kościan poviat. The historical section contains numerous banners, seals and documents. The numismatic collection has over 2,000 coins, banknotes and substitute money, and the art department consists of numerous paintings, graphics and sculptures.
