Gallery of Polish Art 1800-1944
Local name: Galeria Sztuki Polskiej 1800-1944
Located inside:
Silesian Museum
The exhibition is mainly devoted to native painting, but also includes sculpture. The works presented here are selected in such a way as to show representative and cross-sectional style of the most outstanding Polish artists and the assumptions of the most important artistic trends. As part of the exhibition, you can see the works of even Stanisław Witkiewicz, Piotr Michałowski, Jacek Malczewski, Olga Boznańska and Henryk Rodakowski.
Most of the collections made available as part of the exhibition were collected in the pre-war period thanks to the efforts of the then director of the Museum, Tadeusz Dobrowolski. In his intention, this collection was to be devoid of regional features and emphasize Polishness. Despite significant losses during World War II, "Polish Art Gallery 1800-1945" still remains one of the most important exhibitions of Polish painting.Less
