Mariacka Street owes its name to the St. Mary's Church, to which it leads. In 2008 it was completely transformed into a pedestrian zone, benches were set on it and decorative trees were planted. This street gives a perfect view of St. Mary's Church.
The buildings along this street come mostly from the second half of the 19th and beginning of the 20th centuries. The most interesting architectonically are tenements located under numbers 1 (until 1970s, the Astoria café's premises), 2 (with original window frames) and 4 and 6 (former Savoy hotel).Currently, there are numerous cafes, restaurants and clubs open until late at night. Concerts, exhibitions and festivals are also organized here.Less
