Silesian Library

Local name: Biblioteka Śląska

The Silesian Library, established in 1922, is the oldest library in Upper Silesia and has very extensive collections.

The library has three buildings. Noteworthy is primarily the modern Main Building completed in 1998 (where most of the collections are located) and the so-called Educational House of the 1930s (former main building), which is an interesting example of modernist architecture.

Apart from the library function, the Silesian Library also conducts cultural activities. They take place in it, among others, concerts of the Silesian Chamber Orchestra and various cyclical events, such as Silesian Press Photography, Silesian Literary Laurel, International Review of Woodcut and Linocut Exlibris and National Festival of Expression for Children and Youth.
