Nikiszowiec is a famous Katowice housing estate, located in the Janów-Nikiszowiec district, built for the needs of miners working in the "Giesche" mine. It was built at the beginning of the 20th century based on the architectural plans of Georg and Emil Zillmann. Currently, in its area there are original residential buildings and infrastructure elements belonging to the mine.
Residential buildings erected for miners and their families form a very coherent complex. Most of the local buildings are made of red brick, and some of them are decorated with interesting bay windows, arches above the windows or portals. The Nikiszowiec estate was entered on the route of the Industrial Monuments Route. On its site there are objects officially recognized as monuments. These are: "Pułaski" shaft assembly at the Wieczorek mine (including a shaft top with a hoisting tower, engine room, sorting plant and a number of other buildings) and the urban and spatial layout of the workers' housing estate.Less
