Kosciuszko Park is the largest park in Katowice, covering an area of 72 ha. It is partially kept in the English style, which is emphasized, among other things, by the avenue of roses, and partly in the classical style, as shown by flower arrangements on flower beds and pergolas. Over 90 kinds of trees and bushes grow in it. Sports enthusiasts will enjoy bulodrom to play the pétanque, city bike station and a toboggan and ski run in the winter.
The 35-meter high parachute tower located in the park is the only preserved object of this kind in the country. It was erected in 1937 and at the time measuring 50 m, it was the highest parachute tower in Poland. Currently, it is a monument in memory of the inhabitants of Katowice murdered by the Germans in 1939. It is also worth paying attention to the small, wooden church of St. Michael the Archangel, from the beginning of the 16th century, a cemetery of Soviet soldiers and a gallery of field sculpture.Less
