Museum of Sport and Tourism

Local name: Muzeum Sportu i Turystyki

Opened in 1974, the museum collects items, documents, and souvenirs related to the development of sport, tourism and nature protection in Karkonosze. The institution presents three permanent exhibitions: Origins and development of tourism in Karkonosze, Development of winter sports in Karkonosze, Nature protection and the temporary expositions related to the region. What also is worthy of attention is the collection of sports equipment of professional contestants - skies, sleds and bobsleighs - and also trophies of outstanding sportsmen. A special place is dedicated to the souvenirs of poet and dramatist Tadeusz Różewicz.

The museum also shows the history of mining and metallurgy in Karkonosze. Especially interesting is the permanent exposition presenting a nature of the region where the unique panorama of Karkonosze with dimensions of 5x2m is placed. The origins of the museum date back to the 1930s when the regional museum was located in this building. In the then German Karpacz, the museum was built voluntarily by the local community.
