St. Anne's Chapel
Local name: Kaplica św. Anny
St. Anne's Chapel, located in the round bastion near Wojanowski Gate, presents the Baroque equipment from the 18th century. It has two rows of embrasures on the facade and the conciliation cross by the wall on the height of the pavement.
The building was built in 1514 during the reconstruction of the city fortifications. It burnt in 1634 and was taken over by Jesuits in 1669. It was renovated and rebuilt numerous times especially in 1843, 1972-1973, and after 1985. The Latin maxim "Built on the glory of the great grandmother of Christ, Saint Anne" can be found inside. A curiosity of the chapel is the bell which was supposedly only tolled in case of the death of a permanent inhabitant of the city.Less
