Market Square and Town Hall in Grodków

Local name: Rynek i ratusz w Grodkowie

The market in Grodków was laid out during the site of the town in the 13th century. To our time survived the surrounding 18th and 19th century tenement houses. The most magnificent building within it is the late Classicist town hall with a polygonal tower.

Grodków suffered greatly as a result of the Red Army offensive in 1945. Over 60% of the buildings have been ruined. Destruction did not bypass the Market. Most of the houses were rebuilt according to old photographs and engravings. Thanks to this they preserved their 18th and 19th century character.

Standing on the Market Square, the town hall also lay in ruins after the war. It was rebuilt in 1948. It is a classicist, rectangular building covered with a hip roof. Above the entrance rises a tower with a square base, and a polygonal summit with a gallery. She is wearing a tin helmet with a lantern.
