Upper Gate Tower
Local name: Wieża Bramy Górnej
The Upper Gate Tower in Głuchołazy is a symbol of this city. It is a remnant of old city fortifications. The square tower is topped with an attic and a pointed, brick pyramid. At the height of the attic there is a viewing terrace from which you can admire the panorama of the city.
The city walls of Głuchołaz were built in the mid-fourteenth century. The first mention of the Upper Gate Tower dates from 1418. The Gothic building is one of the few relics of old fortifications. Its current height, 25 meters, is due to a Renaissance attic added in the 16th century. In 1903, the sunken roof of the tower was replaced by a brick pyramid. It has a metal flag from a non-existent town hall in Głuchołazy.
The tower is a great viewpoint. Over 100 stairs lead to the terrace. Views include both the city and its surroundings.
