Shipyard cranes

Shipyard cranes are one of those parts of Gdańsk which are hard to overlook. In the past, they were essential to the city. Today, cranes decorate the panorama of Gdańsk and remind of the history they witnessed.

The shipyard was the main industrial center in Gdańsk. Shipyard halls, cranes, slipways, gantry cranes, and lathes which can be found here were part of everyday life for many Tricity workers. Over 1000 ships were built in this shipyard. There were also events important for the modern history of Poland. It is here where the Polish 1970 Strikes occurred, the Gdańsk Agreement was reached, and Solidarity was formed.

The objects of the shipyard have priceless historical value, but, unfortunately, they are slowly degrading.
