Amber Museum in Gdańsk is one of the most interesting branches of Gdańsk History Museum. The exposition is located in the Prison Tower, the Torture Chamber, and the Prison House. The exhibitions show detailed history of amber and its uses. The large collection is divided into three sections: natural, old art, and modern art.
The natural section displays interesting ambers with inclusions such as animal inclusions like for example the amber with "Gieratłowska Lizard". Its estimated age is 40 million years and is one of the two Baltic ambers in the world which consists of a lizard.The old art section contains items presenting the history of using amber for jewelry production and also as an art material, magic stone, and healing stone.The modern art section gives an opportunity to view the original collection of miniature music jewelry made of silver and amber.Less
