Old Art Department - a branch of the National Museum in Gdańskis - is located in the impressive, monumental building which, in the past, served as a Franciscan monastery. The handsome collection of the Old Art Department consists of wonderful several hundred years old paintings, old European ceramics, and medieval art.

Apart from the very interesting temporary exhibitions, the museum also presents just as interesting permanent exhibitions. They contain items related to the goldsmithing in Gdańsk since the 15th to the 19th century and paintings by local artists from the period between the 16th and 20th century.

Old Art Department also displays European ceramics, the art dating back up to the 13th century, and the vast collection of Flemish and Dutch paintings. The most valuable painting in the museum is "The Last Judgment" by Hans Memling.

Apart from Old Art Department, it is worth to visit the other branches of the National Museum in Gdańsk: Modern Art Department, Ethnography Department, "Green Gate" Department, Museum of the National Anthem, and Museum of Szlachta Traditions.
