The National Maritime Museum in Gdańsk is situated in granaries in Ołowianka. It consists of the expositions presenting the sea history of Poland and Polish People since the early Middle Ages to modern times, the history of scuba-diving and maritime archaeology in the country and the world, and paintings by maritime artists. The facility also organizes museum lessons and weekend activities for kids.
The oldest granary is Gothic Oliwa Granary also called Monastic Granary after Oliwa's Cistercians who used it. The second one is Baroque Lady Granary named after the figure which stood on its top. It was built in the place of medieval Szkarpawski Granary. The name of the last one - Copper Granary - comes from the material it stored.One of the permanent exhibitions presents life and accomplishments of Jerzy Wojciech Doerffer - the animator of the Polish shipbuilding.Less
